OH THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS!! most of the armis fans are way too comfortable around the talent and bantering too much to the talent. iirc flay mentioned something about not bantering or demanding too much to octavio during the house of fatamorgana collab (context, they were talking about mascot). I think flay noticed that octoposse was bantering with octavio too much…. ngl I’m uncomfortable with octoposse that can’t read the room…. i had to block most of them on yt and twitter

I feel like if someone who doesn’t know anything about Holostars looks at a mascot, and the mascot looks like it can plausibly belong to two separate members, then you’ve fundamentally failed from a branding perspective. I’m not saying this to shit on the artist or anyone in particular, I just think it’s unfortunate that Tavi’s mascot isn’t as effective as it could be for his brand.

Here’s what I think would be a more effective design for Octavio. Keeping the pink for small accents and i placed them roughly in the same spots to where they are on his design. Plus if you really want something on its head i think some antennae-like strings would be cute and match his theming more than the jester ears. This is just a fun thought experiment for me, you’re entitled to your own opinion if you like the original design as it is

(OP) I think you guys are misunderstanding. 1. I love the Bettelion mascot personally so this is not coming from a place of jealousy. 2. I’m not saying the Poppets look like the Bettellion, I’m saying the Poppets look like they could be Bettel’s mascot as well as Octavio’s which means the branding is muddy and could’ve been stronger/more distinct. 3. Reiterating again, I’m not trying to shit on anyone, Tavi, or the artist. This is just an observation

I agree on the pink and light blue parts switching (so the light blue is the main color with pink only being in few spots). I do think it’s that, overall, there’s just too many purple/pink/red mascots in StarsEN and we’ve finally hit the nadir (no fault to Octavio, I like the design itself a lot). Like just breaking it down by main color:
– Cultare = cyan
– Magmites = dark purple
– Axelotls = dark gray w/yellow fins
– Vesties/Vestea = primarily white w/black accents
– Phantom = purple
– Bettelion = mix of fuchsia/red/purple
– Chibi-TRUS = mainly red
– Machiroons = black with no armor, mostly red with armor
– Hakkitos = purple
– Koipanions = mainly white w/ orange/brown/yellow spots (and the main hat being black)
– Sorawrity = pink
– Bubbies = brown
– Ruzaders = red
– Poppets = mix of gray/white/pink/purple
That’s 9 mascots/fandom reps with some kind of red/purple/pink coloration out of 14.

not the comment op but that’s not a “gotcha”? pink is clearly a small fraction of his colour palette if it’s only in his eyes and inner coat, whereas in the mascot it takes up a much larger percentage of the palette. i agree with them that it should’ve been kept to smaller accents with more blue and black

It wasn’t meant to be a “gotcha,” it was pointing out that there is pink present in a part of his design that is near-constantly on-screen. I would’ve liked to see a few possible color arrangements, but I don’t mind the amount of pink present. I think the cacophonous color palette reinforces an idea that these little guys were sewn together from the parts of multiple predecessors. They’re little Franken-puppets with Heartless vibes.
Using more blue and black would actually have diminished that aspect of the mascot design. I also just like seeing more pink in a Stars mascot for a character it makes sense to use the color with.
I’m wary that there’s a portion (not all, obviously) of Bettelion who are reacting as if pink can only be “Bettel’s thing,” and I’m hoping I’m overthinking that.

It’s similar ish but to me it’s only because of the floppy jesteresque ears that bettel has been trying to really enforce with his brand lately and even then i don’t have a problem with it. i think using light blue for the pink parts would have kept the patched together vibe while matching his palette better with pink left only for small areas like the stomach or under the tailcoats. nobody is saying pink is bettel’s thing, it’s the even spread of pink next to purplish-blue and the jester ears that strongly evokes bettel. octavio’s mascot could’ve achieved everything you think it should achieve without the similarities to bettel’s aesthetic

Aside from the ears & humanoid shape, there isn’t much similarities. Maybe slightly overdesigned compared to other Armis mascots but I’m not really complaining. I think it’s cute the “showmen” talents have similar themes with each other.

If the design looked like that without the jester ears and with a mainly blue colour palette it would be perfect. I get wanting some pink since Octavio has some too but it would’ve been better to have it just as tiny accents. The even spread of pink and purplish-blue is just undeniably too similar to Bettel’s aesthetic. It’s really a shame too since the design is definitely really cute but it’s overshadowed by the similarities

I’m shocked people think of Bettel’s mascot this is a KH inspired design down to the heart chest. Also Tavi has the cotton candy aesthetic, Bettelion are more flamboyant in their colour palette as well.
