i’m late about this, but having seen both lex and shinri’s 3D models, i can’t help but feel like he got the short end of the stick for official 3D. i don’t know which is “higher quality” but lex’s 3D just looks better, and from most angles looks like a 2D image in stills- only flayon and axel have models like that among starsEN. it’s weird.

I mean, it’s partially based on who they get for their 3D modeller (I don’t think we know who did Axel’s, but Flayon’s is someone who does amazing work in general), but it’s also partially based on how well the 2D model translates to 3D. Their L2D models have a lot more depth than any of the other boys, particularly in their shading and how their outfits/accessories lay on them. The others, quite frankly, don’t have that: Altare’s model is relatively plain and his hoodie/jacket combo means he looks like he’s swimming in his clothes in 3D; Bettel’s model is very pretty and detailed, but is super pale, and the modeler just didn’t know how to correct for it; Hakka’s most interesting stuff is his hair honestly; and Shinri’s isn’t really that bad honestly, it’s mostly just his tits looking weird.
There are some also Hololive/Holostars models that look average to bad and some that are insanely well done. It just kind of is what it is. (Like with Advent, Shiori’s is easily the best since it was done by the same modeler for Flayon and Rio, while everyone else’s are good to meh depending on your taste.)

honobo is super cracked, i don’t expect every model to be as good as his but i agree that altare’s and bettel’s (tho im bettelion, maybe im biased) are lacking. bettel’s hair looks really strange and almost like its gelled sharply, instead of being fluffy. altare also kinda shrinks into his clothes. ive also got an intense hate for ina’s that i cant really put into words (also a takodachi LMAO i feel like its inelegant) its def not a stars thing.

fair. i can predict that jurard will probably translate well to 3D, too, because of how he’s shaded. but i worry for ruze and gibby. it feels like for a corpo cover’s size, there really should be more consistency?

3D models can also be given updates (see Calli getting a newer 3D model just a month or whatever ago), so it’s not out of the realm of possibility for the talents to ask for a touchup or for management to do the same. I wouldn’t also doubt that some modelers/artists end up just liking their work and going overboard with it cause the design spoke to them, just like some probably do their work to the average and call it there.
Plus you can quality/consistency control to the letter and you’ll still have hiccups.

Bettel’s design was not made with 3D in mind, it looks good because of the pretty colors but his hair is all out of whack and making that work in 3D must have been a pain. And his forehead is just hug, Senzaki’s own reference sheet for Bettel also had different proportions for his face in front and side views.

They did Senzaki mama and Bettel dirty with the 3D model. If you compare his 2D and 3D next to each other they’re just worlds apart, it’s not just nitpicking. The most important parts (face, head and hair) have completely different proportions compared to the original, making him look like a different character altogether. It’s definitely not Senzaki mama’s art brought to life in 3D anymore. I really don’t get how Cover OK’d it, some of its angles are straight-up awful, especially his side profile makes it obvious the modeler just had no clue how to work with male bodies at all. Imo it’s by far the worst 3D model in Holopro, made even worse by the obvious quality disparity with Flayon’s super well-done 3D model debuting right after.
I don’t expect them to, but I hope they fix the model at one point. Then again, fixing that wonky ass head and face would take a lot more effort than for example Roberu’s shoulders, so I doubt it’ll ever happen.

The only modeler who said they worked on one was Honobo for Flayon. We don’t know any of the other boys modelers AFAIK

yeahhh i didn’t wanna say it but sometimes bettel’s 3D looks so weird. it lost all of the design’s ikemen/cute charm.

most of it is fine, but they really messed up his head, face and hair, which is arguably the most important part of it all. the best it ever looked was in kiri because the angelic bobble head droopy-eyed look is appropriate to such an ethereal song, other than that it looks so awkward and out of place, ESPECIALLY as home3D on his regular streams.
