The argument against using it for SC is because you can use a VPN to send akasupas for basically pennies by abusing ARS. Naturally, since it’s the assumption that it’s a large amount of money, streamers are very conscious of red superchats and tend to pay more attention to them, so it’s essentially ‘boosting’ your message to be seen for cheaper engagement from your oshi.
It was actually a large problem that had to be addressed by the boys from The Other Company, as there was a rash of time where their fans were abusing ARS to spam akas and they had to ask their fans to stop.
Yeah I get red SCs get attention, blah blah blah, you can at least see the currency in the SC when it is sent and the streamer can decide to acknowledge it or not on their own. But paying for memberships in mass with ARS causes actual damage to the streamer’s community and wallet when you give access to paid content that is usually $5 for pennies to tons of viewers. I’ve noticed this happening in one of the boys community with hundreds of memberships from an ARS super chatter and I just hope he’s doing okay this month. It’s got to be so disheartening to get so many gifted in a stream and realize you made a whole $10 or less from them.
Oh, I noticed the mass gifted memberships too. Perhaps they did that to promote his menshi contents then maybe those who got gifted might renew on their own. Although no idea on the financial impact or damage to his channel for doing that. I was actually curious if they haven’t subbed to his highest tier yet.
it’s not as simple as it was before but if you’re from certain countries in latam (wouldn’t be able to tell you the list) or know someone there who can help you, you just set up a prepaid card with a bank in argentina and you can still use ARS
From what i can tell from the vague tweeting on my FYP, apparently he made a statement that he ignores people who super chat in ARS/other weak currency conversions to USD because of VPNs because the conversion for something like a red supa is like a couple of dollars but you can’t really tell who’s actually from there and who is not. Some fans got mad especially the ones from LatinAm who do have weaker currency conversions than someone from the EU or USA and he then said basically why are you even superchatting if the price of groceries there. I get what he means by the VPN supas because they do it to certain boys streamers all the time but a lot of them are genuine.

It’s like gifting 50 memberships from a weak currency which would only be like 20 USD versus the 250ish it is in USD normally. I don’t really know why he felt the need to mention/put out a public statement saying to ignore those types though. I’m sure if you’re a streamer you know that these things happen.
A friend of mine keeps telling me Lando was in a controversy but can’t remember what. I watch him every now and then but I haven’t seen anything like that. Was Lando in a controversy or is my friend just stupid?
The only one I can even think of to be considered as such would be his infamous and unfortunate “ugly diner uniform” tweet, which most people strongly suspected was him complaining about Magni’s model being unattractive. It was generally seen in bad taste.
Otherwise yeah, I am unaware of anything serious – not even the most scorned magmite back on the old mother site had anything nastier to say than to call him a grifter, and I don’t doubt that some might have looked for controversies as ammo for their hate in the height of the graduation storm.
