Off topic is always such a shit show and attracts so many people not here to talk about stars, I really hope admin decides to just delete this page.

Hope people realize their braindead, most ESL takes here get copy pasted elsewhere and we have to see that shit. This page is just paragraphs over paragraphs over paragraphs of nothing. Like another anon said: some of you really need to stick to Reddit or, let’s be realistic, Facebook.

At first I thought it was a coincidence but the more I look the more similarities I see. Especially the oshi marks since they would probably check those first. Riki seems to be playing into it and finds it funny. They still seem different enough that it’s not a problem and they’re potentially fans which is cool imo.

Report

If it was just the designs I’d say coincidence, but the oshi marks pull things into deliberate territory lol. I don’t think it’s bad but I wonder what motivated this behind the scenes

Report

I thought Idol was dead?? didn’t they file for bankrupts and let their idols go??

Report

No, the owner sold Idol to Brave, which owns a multitude of vtubing projects. Contracted talents had the option to stay and continue operations under Brave, or leave with ownership of their IPs while paying part of their earnings to Brave over a period of time. This will be the first generation debuting under Brave-owned Idol.

Not gonna lie, I only glanced at the images and thought it was genderbent fanart of them until I realized it was two of the new Idol girls 💀

Obviously every talent is a unique individual, but which talents from the girls side do you think are good analogs for fans of XYZ talents from the boy’s side? I think a lot about how Fauna and Shinri are a good example of this (both are grounded streamers who do comfy zatsu, love lore, and pick up a lot of horror games)– I go and watch him whenever she isn’t streaming much, or is in a stretch of streams that don’t interest me.
Obviously one could always just watch other streamers in the same branch, but I a) have pretty narrow interests when it comes to vtubers and b) enjoy seeing what the other side is up to in my oshi’s “down” time.

Bettel and Gura do have similarities although not in a good way
Both have a lot of casual viewers for being a memelord of the gen, sadly followed by the worst fanbase in their respective branch. They both ironically have tons of parasocial gachi unicorn incel/femcels in their fanbase although all they did was just playing a character and they didn’t necessarily sold BFE/GFE. The “bad seeds” in their fandom tend to either infight or attack other talents and fandoms, and can’t stop number bragging, but no one knows if they’re just the bad seeds or actual majority.

Bettel and Calliope… idr where but someone said she was his oshi? I don’t know. I find I watch Bettel way more than I watch her because she honestly doesn’t stream as much as she used to and she’s not as funny but I like her music. Or maybe ERB. Or Bae? Honestly just listing people I like now but also it’s kind of based on vibes. Like I like Bettel because he’s just a guy. Maybe even Kronii?

I’m like the worst person to go for this because after I started watching stars i stopped watching the girls almost entirely save for ERB and Fauna sometimes. It’s the fandom on the girls side that bugs me. I’m actually afraid of men ironically but I realized if I’m watching the boys I’m actually hanging out with (1) boy and a thousand probably women instead of (1) girl and thousands of men. Take a guess at where I feel safer!

I don’t think Bettel really has an “oshi” in that sense or if he does he hasn’t shared that info. He just mentioned that he was most familiar with Calli before joining, I think it was in an early Q&A stream he did. Bettel was by all accounts very out of tune with the vtuber sphere before joining holostars, most evident in his lack of knowledge of a lot of key aspects of vtuber and chat culture.

Liking or disliking talents based on their fanbases can be a slippery slope to just not liking any of them. Every member I oshi has weird fans I distance myself from. It’s a good practice to just like what you like and try to avoid basing your interests on what other people have to say about them. And take it from someone who’s gone to many holo meetups and events– 99.999999% of those guys are super chill. The ones who start shit online don’t actually go to meetups and events and if they do they’re way too chicken shit to actually say or do anything irl when the vast majority of fans support and love stars and starmin.

1

Report

Seriously. If judged liking any of the talents based on whether I liked their fanbase, I’d hate them all!

I can’t say I understand this mentality. The main focus is the streamer, so their traits are what matters most. And it’s not an in-person thing, so where does “safer” come in…?

1

Report

Some of yall are horny weirdos but you’re girls so you have the sense to do it in private. Men don’t have that. They will say weird shit in a girl streamers chat without any care. And don’t act like a chat doesn’t affect your enjoyment of a stream because I always see posts complaining about jurards chat. I don’t know what that’s about but people seem to upvote those. I don’t see how it’s misogynistic to want to be away from a space that primarily male dominated. I still watch erb because the lizbians make me feel safe. Can’t say that for other fanbases.

2

Report

>viewers are a monolith
I simply ignore the chat lol

1

Report

I noticed that too. For example, when ERB sang Mr. Brightside, chat is just spammed with NTR chants or “It’s the NTR song”. Like there’s nothing wrong with the occassional ntr joke but it got old really fast when the girls’ chat is just full of it. Meanwhile, when any of the boys sang it, hardly anyone mentions NTR. National Tempus Radio only gets mentioned if it gets brought up as a joke then they move on.

Jurard’s was pretty much a nothingburger. Just a few sorawrity members who wanted to police his chat coz they got uncomfy when some random grey names get blatantly horny in chat & Jurard reads it absentmindedly before he could stop himself.

Report

I think I would struggle with this beyond the broadest strokes. So a few ideas:

  • Goldbullet and Raora: Both artists who drew their own mascots, both very keen on talking about food, both extremely prone to being affectionate and laughing a lot with their chat. Raora has also showed a fondness for multiple older titles that seem like they’d be right up Gibby’s alley, like Super Mario or Klonoa. A big distinction is how Raora seems to be substantially more comfortable doing collabs so far.
  • Gigi and Flayon OR Ruze: Terminally online roleplayers with what I would generously describe as Tumblr brain. Also unironically very skilled gamers within their niches. Some of Gigi’s favorites include at least one visual novel series and multiple MMOs (like Flayon), and she’s obviously also a fan of TTRPGs (like Ruze).
  • Altare and Ame: Leaders of their units on both paper and in how they conduct themselves, expanding the possibilities of content creation in their niche by investing into equipment and getting the ball rolling on inter-branch and even inter-agency collabs in ways that viewers previously thought couldn’t be done. Ame was much more of a trailblazer in this regard than Altare has been so far, but the effort is there and often acknowledged by their fellow talents.

Report

Here’s a wild take : Raora is the example of what Goldbullet should’ve done to not get behind growth wise like he currently is. That is, becoming a comfy creative streamer of the gen with his skillsets and making his own gamer niche with nintendo classics instead of relying on BFE that no one wants especially in StarsEN.

2

Report

I partly agree with you! I maintain that Gibby’s reputation for “relying on BFE” is grossly exaggerated. Out of something like 150+ streams, less than 5 that I’m aware of have been targeted towards courting gachi types. The most recent one of those was Valentine’s Day, so 7 months ago. I’ve watched a lot of his streams, and his behavior since doesn’t strike me as leaning any more into BFE than someone like Hakka or Flayon. Which is to say, not much at all.

But! I did say I partly agree with you, and that’s in how I think he should’ve leaned more into his creative skills sooner. I’m not sure why in the hell he waited until July to start doing drawing streams, for example. I get the sense he has struggled the most in finding his niche, and I agree that leaning into his comfort zone with art and classic gaming sooner probably would’ve been to his benefit.

Report

i agree with these – adding a few that i’ve thought of:

  • Kiara and Hakka: multi-lingual birbs that are (geographically) farther away from the rest of their genmates, who are generally not considered Super Great Gamers, but do a lot in music, zatsus, and variety entertainment (+ social butterflies)
  • Cecelia and Octavio: music-making streams! i think both are also good at roleplaying and playing off of other people
  • Bijou and Bettel: sweaty gamers (sometimes) who have a knack for comedic timing, IMO

visiting this site (and this page in particular) is always a coin flip on whether you’re gonna see normal posts from 8 days ago or an absolute shitstorm that is updating as we speak. well, the other site from before was the very same, and an opinion that’s well-received one day may be completely rejected the very next. nothing here can really be taken seriously or made indicative of the community at large. but some would argue that the people we become under an anonymous profile speaks to our true nature…….. there’s a real head scratcher for you.

It is a website full of people who justify their hatred and anti-behavior by saying “hurr at least we do it out of sight, ” while hiding behind the veil of anonymity. Not sure why anyone would be surprised by how it turns out.

Report

It’s two-faced. You got one side not wanting this site to be a hugbox because of fear of not being able to express constructive criticism while you have another side who rather this site be a hugbox. Yesterday’s events dispel that notion about the site being a hugbox because, in the end, you still have anons here who still have the negative aspects from nyfco as if they never learned from the previous incidents. Srsly, I thought this site was supposed to have a change in direction after Lando’s and Connor’s callout tweets towards their haters and Lando as Caspurr’s apology to his former fanbase for not saying goodbye after the graduation.

If anything, wouldn’t that drive more of the negative comments here since? People who are still hung up on it would probably rather go, “Fine, I’ll take it where they won’t see it,” instead of, “Fine, I’ll stop making any comments.”

sometimes people just disagree nonnie… the thread seems to be gone but i must say the walls of text that were doubling down on accusing other starmin of misogyny did not exactly make for civil discussion

Report

Idk if using various emojis on controversial posts counts as disagreement. I rarely see that on other pages like the Tempus or Armis page. The deleted discussion thread with those emojis reminded me of Facebook. So, it does give you an idea of what kind of people hang out on this page.

Report

I mean the emojis come up pretty often when people get inflammatory with their choice of words even on Tempus and Fleshtubers (no experience on Armis). I know the Facebook comment is a subtle dig at SEA users, but sometimes it really does just boil down to people getting petty at the slightest disagreement. People saw a name and started venting their grievances. OP saw the responses and started venting their grievances. Neither side backed down and it all kept spiraling. As much as I know people like to pawn off responsibility on boogeymen like trolls from the outside, I’ve seen enough drama solely within starmin circles that I know it’s coming from within just as much as it comes from beyond.

And on a side note, I’ve seen in completely different fandoms what happens when a woman is accused of misogyny (I once saw a male gamedev call a female fan a misogynist) and HOO BOY that’s one of the fastest ways things can get out of hand.

1

Report

I saw the post and even though it got pretty out of hand, it did make me think. While I don’t think most of the FWMC disdain stems from misogyny, women can be and are often misogynistic without even knowing it. In the same way that gay people can internalize homophobia and POC can hold internalized racism against their own race/self. You’re not exempt from prejudice because you happen to belong to that group. But this page really isn’t the kind of place to examine that. Accusing someone of being any kind of prejudice (and against their own self at that) is a pretty hefty thing to do on an anonymous forum. There’s 2 truths here: the girls who adhere strictly to the no men rule have a right to do so if that’s how they want to live their idol truths, and at the same time idol culture stems from the violent commodification of women in Japan that harms women and sets the Japanese feminist movement back and some aspects of it are outdated and need to be revised for a modern lens, and in that same way, the girls who adhere to and promote the culture should examine it closely and decide if that’s really the kind of institution they should support and uphold.

Well all of these topics are way too heavy for this page and this thread may very well get taken down too at this point so I won’t really go much further than that. Downvote and argue in the comments if you want it’ll definitely get taken down in 30 minutes if you do.

3
2
1

Report

I saw the FWMC posts too and I don’t think anyone in the responses were insisting they need to interact with the boys to have value like the OP was saying. People were just mentioning not liking FWMC for the whole silence incident, which people have the right to do, and questioning supporting them when they don’t support the boys, and that part I’m a bit iffy about reading, but still don’t blame people for feeling.

Trolls definitely fueled the argument with the amount of downvotes and emoji spam that happened, but I do think fans are valid for wanting to support some Hololive girls and not wanting to support others, and I think implying fans are misogynists if they’re mainly here to support Holostars and don’t like Hololive members that react the way they do towards the branch is counterproductive and self-destructive to our already small community in the vtuber sphere.

Whether you believe someone has internalized -isms or -phobias holds little weight if you know little to nothing about who’s on the other side of the screen and in some cases to accuse someone of these things can be abhorrent to say to a survivor of that type of hatred and abuse. I’ve lurked many a forum and social media with minority groups and the connections that break when someone starts to over-analyze another over a disagreement is ugly and comes off more self-righteous than well-meaning.

Both ends were being hostile on a fairly innocent post (initially) but in general people like to throw around pretty significant words in otherwise simple disagreements and that’s not something unique to anonymous vtuber forums unfortunately lol
