aweeeegehhhhh ;;;_; for people like me who don’t have social media and therefore just see what their oshi is up to when it’s happening, nothing is better than coming home after a long day and seeing a VOD for a game you’ve been dying to seem them play ;;;;_;;; i love my oshi
I saw two posts on holoplus about ame & aqua’s pl/new identities
The one I saw about ame is gone now but the poster was asking if dooby was ame.
I think it was an innocent post but didn’t think it was against the rules ig. The screenshot is someone celebrating the return of aqua’s pl.
Haha you’re sooo right anon, it’s so cringe to celebrate someone else’s artistic achievements in an underappreciated field. You’re soooo detached and ironic and cool for this.
Cuban-American, she was born in the US (and she said she technically didn’t work on the one episode that won an Emmy lol)
I’m surprised (and slightly concerned) by how much she revealed on her dooby debut stream, but I guess she already went through the brunt of being doxxed when she first joined Holo back in 2020. I’m glad she can be herself now, though I’m curious why she couldn’t mention her Latin American heritage when so many other talents in Holo are very open about their ethnicity.
Not sure why this got downvoted lol. But yeah I was also surprised she couldn’t state her ethnicity openly? Although now that I think of it, I’m not sure if Ina and Kronii have ever directly stated that they’re Korean, too– hasn’t it always just been inferred from their stories/spoken languages? I think I’ve only ever heard EN members with actual JP heritage confirm their ethnicities.
Not including Stars since those guys openly state their ethnicities all the time lmao
Yeah, I don’t know. Calli, Fauna, and Mumei regularly talk about being American, but I guess that’s just nationality. Nerissa has stated on stream that she’s white when she was talking about having Korean friends. And Kiara always talks about being Austrian, and she even got a dirndl as an official outfit and talked a lot about the culture surrounding the attire. Raora is very openly Italian, ERB keeps the most thinly veiled layer of lore separating herself from being British…
And then there’s the boy’s side: *gestures wildly at Hakka* Although I guess I don’t think Hakka has ever officially stated what part of Latin America he’s in, he just regularly corrects people when they assume Latino = Mexican. Jurard and Octavio are proudly SEA, but now that I think about it, the other boys don’t seem to get too into their ethnicity besides hints through language comprehension?
I wonder what the deciding factor is for all these individuals when it comes to being public with what backgrounds they have… If it’s an individual choice or if management insists on a certain level of RP while on company time. It’s a bit confusing given dooby’s debut stream.
Axel blurted in one Apex collab with rpr and Restia that he’s half-Japanese which explains his yearly visits to Japan to meet his relatives. A lot of people correctly guessed that Altare is Korean who grew up in the US. Bettel and Ruze are obviously American while GB did mention he’s Puerto Rican during his debut. Flayon and Shinri are the only ones who never explicitly revealed their ethnicities onstream even in PL. We only know Flayon is Blasian due to his PL but Shinri is a complete mystery as we only know he has Asian heritage
the vtuber fandom wiki page on axel’s pl mentions he’s half Hong Kong (the tweet it links to is dead) and considering the coco situation . . . i can see why he doesn’t bring it up
You can make enough deductions if you’ve watched him long term as he talks about his mum’s family and his maternal grandmother living in Japan, whereas on Lunar New Year he’s discussed getting red pocket money from his dad’s side of the family and his paternal grandparents live nearby in northern elysium.
It’s very different? Especially for Cubans given the complex political situation that drove most of Cuban immigration to the United States? Don’t be dense.
This is really the only reason I can think of. Some talents very obviously don’t talk about it as their own choice, while others I think just don’t because, unfortunately, it avoids outsiders acting like assholes towards them. Kanade, for example, is very obviously Korean, but they seem to want her to avoid stating it outright because Korea and Japan don’t have the best relationship and a lot of antis would latch onto that to attack them. It is less if an issue for people in foreign branches like Altare, Ina, or Kronii, but Kanade being in the Japanese branch opens her up to a lot of crazy anti-Korean people, unfortunately.
While Shiori, for example, seems to be more secretive about her heritage for personal reasons.
I *think* Shiori might be ethnically Chinese? I know Bae is, she never listed Canto or Mando under the list of languages she spoke on her debut likely because Council came around only a couple months after Coco’s graduation, so the EN sphere had even more vitriol than it usually does towards anyone remotely Chinese. It took a couple years (and for her mom to accidentally speak Canto to her on stream) for Bae to get comfortable speaking it openly. And even now there’s the occasional YouTube clip comment people make assuming people’s ethnicities based off languages and think Bae is Korean.
OH, and now that I mention that, I remember those types of comments thinking Irys is half white because of their assumptions of her growing up in America and moving to Japan with a Japanese mother, they think American father = white… Then she had her dad call in on stream and even if I didn’t know PL information, I’d still recognize the accent he had.
dooby was able to talk about how there are some movies and shows that she’s worked on have won awards, something she couldn’t talk about as ame for obvious reasons.
i know it wasn’t even that long but i missed her so much i’m so glad she’s here again even if it’s not how i once knew her. dooby world domination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
