Nope, but I do know that they’re shutting down and something like this was a weird thing to post when they were already out the door. A former EIEN talent did post a disapproving meme but apparently any actual source for what happened comes only from 4chan so… Regardless of who’s telling the truth, I think most of us can agree it’s better to just move on and support the talents.
If she graduates, that’s fine. I don’t know what will happen with EN, but I think the branch will come out of it alright– part of the reason new generations continue to get hired is the same reason new employees get hired at companies. So that massive gaps won’t be left behind as old employees eventually move on to other things. Ame and Gura have both been nonentities in the past year beyond their statuses as founding members of the branch. As was the case with Ame, if Gura is no longer happy as Gura, I wish her the best and thank her for what she’s done thus far.
Why would she graduate if she can take the same path as Ame?
Besides, the EN management has become super lax, and ENside again this is not the other company. Cover doesn’t seem to be too affected if they live parallel lives that much, or even hint at it.
In EN most of us have come to terms that a Vtuber is someone else and that’s fine and we love them for who they are no matter the shape they take. JP Vtubers are more guarded because of privacy, that’s mostly it for them. The only ones that want to preserve the illusion of Santa is Real are Chinese fans but they even do the same with Voice Actors
I think it was pretty deducible from my post, but I was talking about Gura leaving her current role at Holo in whatever capacity, be that graduation or what Ame has done. Hence, “as was the case with Ame”. My apologies for using the term graduation, though, when more specific language is now necessary with the increase in options. You’re right in that taking Ame’s route would be an appealing choice for both her and Cover. That being said, this was an oddly bad faith reading of my post that took unnecessary jabs at both the other company and an entire racial subset of the fanbase, which I don’t appreciate. I don’t think injecting tribalism into random conversations is healthy.
I haven’t heard much about anilive in awhile & a tweet came up on my feed where they’re being accused of using AI or AI assisted/generated models. They never give direct credits to the artists for the models/illustrators of their talents so, it makes sense to me. I’ve also seen a clip from a nexus member (don’t remember who) that said no one is allowed to know who their riggers are. They claim they don’t endorse AI but the models for talents in their jumpstart program have raised some eyebrows. I’ve also seen a thread & a few youtube comments with people claiming to be ex-talents who say their models were made with AI. There were also positions on linkedin for AI engineers/AI related positions that were eventually removed. I mean, the app asked for the files to your model so this isn’t that surprising but is worrying for any indies that join the app. Anilive’s whole business relies on naive people who want to be content creators or are in need of money.
Not even a Liz watcher but after listening to her covers multiple times I think I might have to make it to the next HoloEN concert just to hear her live.
yes, but it is a bit more of a process than just covering a japanese song and i believe they can only be uploaded to streaming services and not as MVs on youtube. there’s some limits but it’s a great step in that direction.
Hopefully, this means that EN talents can cover English songs unlike the previous experience on Myth’s “Country Roads” cover gave everyone a lot of headaches.
Can someone explain the Cover controversy that’s going on right now? I’m seeing that they didn’t pay for art and revisions for years and that “they would have kept doing it if they weren’t caught” and that it got on the news?? What actually happened? And what are the consequences of this?
Tldr, cover commision riggers, they paid their contract in full a month after that commision, this is stated in japanese ftc report. The only late payment are from revision after they fulfilled the contract, those are thing when cover found out the result of the rigging to be subpar or inadequate and need to change aka gura rhombus 2d.
1. Cover broke the Subcontract Act by being late on some of their payments to artists, either by extending the time of whatever was being worked on and paying late or by the payment getting messed up and no one realizing it until much later. (The second thing happens far more often in businesses then you’d think.)
2. There’s a new law called the Freelancer Act coming out in November that will now act as protection for freelancers, and one thing is requiring revisions be stated in contracts (so like how many until they’re billed extra, timeframe, etc.) and more clear wording on work orders. Japan’s FTC found Cover asked +20 artists for something like ~243 revisions (that’s across all the artists, BTW), fined them, and recommended that Cover compensate them for these revisions.
Basically, there is a new workers protection law that got introduced sometime back that aims to make sure contractors are properly compensated for additional work that os requested of them that should be outside their contract. For example, if a contractor made art and were asked to change to the work, even small, they need to get paid for it. Apparently, it was extremely common for small changes to be asked to be made without compensation. The law aimed to close that gap.
The law isn’t technically in effect yet, but when the Japanese FTC did an audit, they found some companies that had been doing this along with having late payments. By the time the report got released, Cover had already paid all the contractors they owed and started fixing their internal processes to make sire it didn’t keep happening. As far as I know, no one who has worked directly for them has called them out for it, but they did have contractors come out to say they are definitely not the only ones who did it and not the worst offender.
Unlike the other commentor, who is linking sources that are clearly biased against Cover, as both are known dramawhore Nijisisters, I’d suggest looking elsewhere, especially since Nijisanji has a history of screwing over creators and not properly crediting them.
This is the correct one. The things that Cover is being fined for are just things that usually occur when being commissioned as an artist– speaking from firsthand experience in the Western sphere of art freelancing. Japan codifying regulations on their massive freelance art industry just puts preventions against abuse artists into play.
Unlike in other cases of this described in the vtuber sphere where commissioned artists were not receiving fair treatment, a lot of past artists for Cover actually came forward defending them against those who wanted to use these developments as slander.
I kinda see this whole thing as similar to the time Cover had to private an insane number of videos because of copyright enforcements after they got big. Things that could be done more casually need to become more strictly regulated when you’re get as big as Cover, and it seems like they’re restructuring to consider that more strongly moving forward re:commissions.
TL;DR cover treated artists unfairly and the JFTC fined them for it.
full discussion
cover continued to request revisions from artists (mostly for 2d and 3d models) long after the contract period had ended. in some cases, artists were not paid for their work for up to 300 days after the fact. this is illegal labor in japan and they got in trouble for it with the japan fair trade commission. everything has been paid now, but the fact remains that because cover is a titan in the industry and considered to be the “gold standard” for this sort of thing, many japanese fans are worried that this may have lasting ramifications for how the company is viewed as a whole moving forward regarding commissions, and that people will be hesitant to work with them going forward.
I swear those people on Twitter really have poor reading comprehension. Was there really a bunch of HoloJP fans protesting about Cover? Or are those Nijisisters just making up bullshit?
there were definitely people saying this is whole thing is no good and that they are worried for the future of cover, but it’s not surprising or anything
Sorry for ranting here but anyone else hate how youtube doing things these days. Like holy shit i got an average of 1 ads every 5 minutes when watching a 30 minutes video. Initially i don’t wanna use adblock but recently it had become too much for me.
Another things i had to deal with:
– it keep charging me twice on supa before refunding me.
– my menshi renewal never appear on stream
– livechat bug that does not allow me to click on anything unless i close the app
– sometimes i go to my oshi’s live that i menshi’d to and it tell me to join menshi
– no notification for stream i told them to notify me
– sometimes my views on songs and covers were not counted even after i check again after an hour.
And many other small things not including the algorithm/link to shop/useless search feature etc. I use yt mostly on my phone and even after updating things keep going wrong. I can handle that, but the ads, god the ads. I want to give my oshis money but seriously i cannot do this anymore. Also if anyone wondering about me not using yt premium, that shit keep increasing in price in my country it’s now too expensive. I AM FRUSTRATED
this may not help much but ever since i changed my yt account to a non-branded one so i can receive gifted menshi i noticed i’ve never gotten any ads either, even on tv and mobiles. not sure why (pls dont tell john youtube)
it is worth noting that i have a google one subscription to expand my google drive storage, but i don’t think it has anything to do with my yt account
The live chat barely works, too. It’s crazy to me that their live chat still sucks when other sites have had functioning chats for years before they did.
– sometimes i go to my oshi’s live that i menshi’d to and it tell me to join menshiIt keeps telling me to renew channel membership too when it hasn’t expired yet. The worse part is that I paid for my menshi for a couple months straight but my account got shadowbanned for who knows why so my chat doesn’t appear on screen, I can’t reply to supas and sending supas have loading errors.
People are complaining about the probability of receiving a gifted membership. It seems the current algo prioritizes new visitors over active chatters.
Twice i’ve been given member gifts for channel i know nothing about and of content i absolutely not interested on. My guess is i probably got in contact with the channels while just scrolling around shorts. Its crazy
pro tip for using an adblocker: ONLY use ublock origin and make sure it’s constantly up to date. youtube’s been going crazy trying to prevent adblockers being used to the point if an adblocker is detected it won’t let you play any videos at all.
Anyone got context for this?
