I still find it so funny that whoever localized Brock into calling a rice ball a doughnut thought American kids would be confused at the sight of a rice ball or assumed they would never encounter rice in their entire life that they felt the need to localize something that clearly wasn’t a doughnut into being a doughnut. When I saw the clip of Nerissa talking about her family’s stance on rice, I just pointed at the screen and went “They’re the target demographic of the Pokemon localization!!”
counterpoint: risotto, paella, any of several types of european rice pudding. even outside of traditional foods, people do consume rice either as a random filler carb like bread or when they make their own foods (rice casseroles are a common application, apparently). it’s not to say white people don’t consume rice, but they already had wheat as a staple grain, so a lot of their recipes are based on that. that’s like asking why so few japanese recipes incorporate bread. if you’re specifying white americans, most of them were british, and british food doesn’t like to incorporate new things.

I think a good chunk of the usual bad faith actors who do the whole oh so you hate x person? for someone stating their opinion would be better in a discord or a private group chat with other people in fandom with similar opinions. Assuming whoever you’re talking about is attending as their PL and is not trying to be incognito, I think it’s fine to interact with them as long as you solely treat them as whoever they’re being at the moment. If they’re being their PL, treat them as their PL.
For example dearsqn (maid mint’s PL) doesn’t mind fans approaching her at events, but she only wants to be approached as dearsqn, not maid mint. Shachimu (Mumei’s PL) has also said the samething about interactions with her.
I don’t think having their other identity’s merch is bad as long as you don’t call attention to it, they’re likely already aware that many of their fans know them both ways.
Using Connor as an example greet him as Connor say you love his work PERIOD. Unless you actually know his work pre Bettel keep it there.

There’s a bisoulovely collab with hololive but I think the choices of using mascots is kinda mid. Like I’m not really hating on it but, it just feels really uninspired compared to other collabs people have had with bisoulovely or like the jewelry collab the boys got. It’s weird too that some of the mascots were replaced with the livers’ companions which suck (either because there’s no official mascot yet or just cuz???)
I’m too broke to get anything if I wanted too but it really feels like they wanted to play it safe than trying something potentially more interesting to customers.
Maybe part of it is the sheer volume of items. It’s a pretty large drop so maybe cover went with a cheaper design option because of that vs the 4 or 5 item drops

imo? this is a pretty decent merch drop, actually. they look cute. besides, using a talent’s buddy/companion if they don’t have a fandom mascot is pretty standard. it happened with chibi-trus and phantom, for example. how else do you expect them to include a talent in the merch drop?
The complaint isn’t about using a companion, it’s about companions being used seemingly at random. Just off the top of my head here, Gigi, Fauna, and Kronii all have canon and longstanding fandom mascot designs that were not used here. I can’t even recall the last time Fauna’s companion Nemu was seen or talked about on stream so it’s a weird pick.

Yeah I agree with you, I think stealth merch is always the best route. Also the primary demographic for the girls’ merch is adult men and I think they’d be more likely to go for things that are understated.
I understand what you mean by the aesthetic theming not being to your taste (or mine either) but I think what you’re missing is that this is a Christmas drop. The gold baubley round designs and them being charm bracelets/necklaces is suited to the season and gives them a traditional feel, the little round gems and stars are very twinkley and like a fairy light/tree ornament. Being small cute squishy mascots and friends makes them look like something you’d see on a greeting card. I would have much preferred a sleeker look with better theming to make it ‘inspired by’ the design of the talents model itself or made to look like something they would actually wear on their person (especially because vtubers commonly wear necklaces/earrings/bracelets on their model, it’s free real estate). But eh, seasonal goods gonna seasonal, so I just skip because I don’t usually buy easter/halloween/christmas stuff on average.
