It definitely is. I used to love watching this one content creator. Then, one day they got the stupidest looking vtuber/pngtuber avatar and it was so distracting that it completely put me off their content.

When it comes to choosing your Vtuber oshi, which one of these is the most important to you? [Voice, Character design, Personality, Game/content choices.] For me, it’s the voice. I at least tolerate the poor design, boring game choices, and the lack of personality. But if the voice is horrible and too grating for my ears then it’s an instant no from me.
content is really important to me like sometimes i LOVE a vtuber and hate their content. for ex. i only watch flay if he’s doing retro stuff but steer clear of the visual novel stuff. and i only watch hakka for tengutalks. i watch gavis bettel the most not just because of his personality but because he primarily plays games that i like, save for when he does a lot of horror, but that usually doesn’t take up his whole week anyway. i feel really bad that i never watched fauna much because her musical skills and asmr stopped being the focus at some point and that was the initial draw for me, even if i like everything else about her.

I even had my “this shit is so ass” moment when i first heard his singing lmao, but the way he still appreciated the fans through singing, eventhough he know he’s not that good at singing, got me hooked, i guess.
Personality>Character Design>Voice>ContentI think personality is what I value the most, Ruze’s design is top elite, his voice is hot in a way, he loves DnD, does Karaoke, etc BUT I didn’t vibe with his personality, maybe it was my bad luck, but any time I opened his stream he was angry, or was very antagonistic to his chat, not in a playful way Axel does where he will call us cunts and then be a cutie to a point it felt wrong being there. Axel, and Bettel, I will watch their league streams even if they make me wanna hit my head against the wall, as a duty of love and loyalty. I tried to support Caspurr too, but he will ignore all new/non members (and then wonder why he doesnt grow??) he kinda did the same as Magni and why I never ended up vibing with him.
personality=voice>game choice>design. for me, the reason why voice and personality are equal is because they’re linked. your personality influences how you talk, and i care more about how a creator talks (cadence, energy, word choice) than the pitch of their voice or any accents they may have. the worst offenders are the ones that intentionally make their voice high/low to fit a stereotype or do the rising influencer talk that sounds? like they’re? constantly? asking a question? design means nothing, i regularly watch people who are PNGs or faceless and it doesn’t bother me at all.
relatable personality/interests above all else. if i can’t say “they just like me fr fr” at least once during a stream then im out. for example, i love to watch bettel but i feel like i’ve never been able to call him an oshi of mine primarily because i can’t relate to a lot of what he says, his interests etc. it’s like observing a specimen from the outside for me. by contrast, i relate HARD to members like gigi, reine, raden, magni/caspurr, and hakka so they’ve become my oshis. but i know some people like their streamers to have different perspectives and personalities as well, which i think is interesting!
I have so many vtubers I followed for pretty designs but never hooked me with anything else, so that is my last priority. Now when I see a design I like, I just follow their artist.
Voice > personality > character design > content > games
I split content up because I give zero shits what they play.
example Ruze plays so many games I’ve never played or even seen before and straight up would never play on my own or watch someone else play but I dont care because he is what I come to watch and I like seeing him having a good time and its cute how he likes to teach us his ways like he is right now in Hunt which is a game I would never have cared about without him involved
The order is the same for me. If I don’t like the voice, that’s the biggest dealbreaker. I don’t look at the screen a lot of the time since I’m usually busy doing something else, so voice and personality are really key.
The only big no for games is League. I don’t care how much I like the guy, I’m not sitting through daily, or even weekly, League streams for anyone.

side note while we’re on the topic of lemonleaf, i’m kinda annoyed by the new lemonleaf clipper that’s uploading clips of her old pre-holo streams and clickbaiting them with titles and thumbnails to make them look like she’s talking about current day vtuber stuff. like one clip that was titled “lemonleaf talks about (nimi) nightmares” and it’s just her years ago talking about conceptual nightmares in general.

idk why that is still even a topic when altare had build his own studio a while ago. i feel like that was already a sign it was never going to happen. maybe they threw the idea out there a couple times, but like ina said, logistically it just wouldnt work well anyway.

Hell, I can tell who’s an idiot by how they have no idea the vast distance the US covers. They’ll say ‘just build a studio and rent apartments in one central location’ but that’s literally impossible unless Cover wants to be located in fucking Kansas or something. That’s also not getting into how talents in the US would still have a +4 hour trip at minimum, and solves nothing for the EN talents outside of the US, nor the different laws per state, etc.
All those people hear is “studio in NA so more 3D” and think it would be as convenient as how it is in Japan.
