The acapella was really cute, everyone sang great and Shinri’s voice was mixed properly thank god. But is it just me or was autotune overused? I’m not anti-autotune or anything, it’s got its uses (i.e. the bom dududu hawk-tuah parts). I just don’t understand why it had to be used for the entire song, especially Hakka of all people. Anyone more musically inclined care to share?
took a quick peek at the mixer’s twitter and from listening to their recent work I notice they like having effects on vocals. it’s just a mismatch of the mixer’s type of sound conflicting with what someone usually expects a cozy holiday carol to sound like.
The only thing I can think of is that one or more recordings were a little choppy or rough, so the auto tune was used to even it out. And with 3 people singing it was probably decided to just smooth out all of them. It’s honestly not distracting or bad, so it was at least done by a mixer who isn’t bad at their job.
autotune doesn’t smooth things out or make them less choppy, though. choppy recordings will still be choppy when autotuned. this is personal opinion, but the autotune is pretty distracting to me. there are better ways to do it. if you can notice autotune, you did it wrong (unless you’re deliberately going for that robotic sound, but that’s not the case here).
